VP Biden Tells Penn Grads To Keep Chin Up As They Go Forth

by Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Don't listen to those preaching doom and gloom, Vice President Joseph Biden told graduates of the University of Pennsylvania today.

VP Biden told more than 5,000 Penn grads at Franklin Field that they were part of the most competent, capable, caring generation this country has ever seen.

And he said today's graduates are uniquely positioned to change the world, no matter what the negative headlines may say:

"The future is within your control," Biden told the graduates.  "Don't listen to the cynics.  That's the only piece of advice I will give you and of which I am absolutely certain: they were wrong about my generation, and they're wrong about yours."

Biden received an honorary law degree.  He joked with Penn president Amy Gutmann, "It's much cheaper to get a degree this way, isn't it?"
