Roy Halladay Will Have Arthroscopic Surgery

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Roy Halladay is going to have arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder, to clean up a frayed labrum and a bone spur found in an MRI. There is no timeline for his surgery or return. Halladay also said he has a "partial tear" of his rotator cuff.
"They were definitely optimistic that I would be back this year. But we're going to be as smart as we can, and do as best we can throughout this whole process," Halladay said. "[The doctor] said he like felt like he could turn back the clock for me."
"This will make things better, and that I can come back and pitch," Halladay said the doctors told him. He said that he was told recovery for similar surgery is two to three months, but they will not know Halladay's timetable until the surgery is performed. Halladay said he is "hopeful," that he can return to pitch this year.
Halladay told the media after the Phillies 14-2 loss on Sunday that he's been feeling pain in his shoulder for about two weeks. The start against the Marlins was Halladay's second consecutive poor performance.
Ruben Amaro announced on Monday that Halladay would be put on the 15-day disabled list, and doctors would take a look at the two-time Cy Young Award winner on Tuesday.
Halladay 36 years-old, has struggled this season with location and velocity, after an injury plagued 2012. He is 2-4 this season with an ERA of 8.65. He's struck out and walked 17 in 34.1 innings, and given up nine home runs. Halladay gave up only 10 home runs in all of the 2011 season.
"I love playing, and I love Philadelphia. I want to come back and be effective," Halladay said.
