Camden and Philadelphia Announce Big Slate of Summer Events on Del. Riverfront

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The waterfront on both sides of the Delaware River will be busy this summer.   Partners from both Camden and Philadelphia came together today to ring in the new season of events.

The season kicks off this weekend with a sold-out Armin Van Buuren concert at Festival Pier on May 10th, and the annual Art Star Craft Bazaar on Penn's Landing, May 11th and 12.

"There'll be more events this year than we ever had before," says Tom Corcoran, president of the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation, listing some of the events on the Philadelphia side of the river.

"There will be multicultural events at Penn's Landing, there will be kayaking and swan boats, there's a concert series with jazz and gospel," he notes.

There will also be numerous festivals, film screenings, fireworks, and other events all throughout the summer, including during the week of July 4th.

Anthony Perno, CEO of Coopers Partnership, says the Camden side of the river will busy as well.

"We are excited to announce the opening of Cirque du Soleil on the Camden waterfront on May 30th," said Perno.  "We also have a couple of other festivals, including the 'Backyard Barbecue' over Labor Day Weekend."

Organizers say six million people are expected to take part in waterfront events this season.
