LAMBERTVILLE, NJ (CBS) – Two suspects were arrested after a strong-arm robbery in Lambertville on Tuesday.

Police say they received a call about an attempted purse-snatch on Bridge Street shortly before 9 a.m.

The victim, a 48-year-old woman from Princeton, said she was approached by a white male in a hooded sweatshirt wearing sunglasses who attempted to steal her handbag.

The woman resisted, and a male passerby came to her aid.

The suspect managed to escape and fled the scene in a gold minivan driven by a female.

Witnesses were able to provide a vehicle description and license plate number, and the vehicle was stopped about 30 minutes later in the area of Route 29 and Fiddlers Creek Road.

Anthony McMellon, 36, and Dawn Bowker, 34, both from Flemington NJ, were then taken into custody by Hunterdon County and Lambertville Police investigators.

Additionally, the 18 month-old child of the suspects was found inside the minivan, improperly restrained but unharmed. McMellon was also in possession of a knife and Bowker had drug paraphernalia on her.

The suspects were arrested and charged with Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Child Endangerment, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
