Popular Philly Cafe Closed After Videos Of Rats Go Viral

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A popular cafe in downtown Philadelphia is closed for repairs after videos of rats running around on top of tables went viral on social media.

A sign on the window at the Green Eggs Cafe in Center City says the restaurant is closing due to a sewer main break. Co-owner Steve Slaughter says he was "horrified" when a regular customer forwarded him photos of rats in the dining room Sunday night.

He says the rats were apparently able to get in through an area around a sewer pipe. Videos of the rats running around inside went viral on Twitter.

Slaughter says he's gotten a permit from the city to have a plumber fix the pipe Tuesday. The health department says it will require an inspection before the restaurant can re-open.
