Plant Sales Just In Time For Mother's Day

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Most gardeners find it hard to resist stopping in at special plant sales like the one at the Barnes Foundation this Saturday on Latches Lane in Merion. It's open to all from 10 to 2, but you can show up early at 9am and join for the Member's Preview too. This is your chance to not only take a free tour of the Barnes Arboretum - and see specimen trees like their stunning Stewartias - but also take home such rare plants for your own garden.

Then over at the Morris Arboretum in Chestnut Hill, there's a two-day sale; Friday from 10 to 8 is for Member's only (but you can join on the spot and get 10% off). Or stop in on Saturday from 11 to 4 when the sale is open to everyone. The Morris sale includes everything from amazing annuals and perennials to rare cultivars of trees and shrubs - with a special focus on those grown locally to ensure they'll thrive in our area.

And since Sunday is Mother's Day, remember to keep your eyes out for a gift, or something to plant in honor or memory of mom.
