Gay Rights Takes Center Stage At International Equality Dinner

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Equality forum hosted its international equality dinner on Saturday Night at the National Museum of American Jewish History. Pennsylvania state Treasuer Rob McCord delivered the keynote speech.

"We're not just progressive in this room, we're pragmatic, we're effective, we're innovative," McCord said.

Each year, the Equality forum has a heterosexual who they consider an alley in their push for equal rights to deliver the keynote speech.

This year was no different.

McCord talked to the room about obstacles the LBGT community has overcome and different agendas he is pushing to help them.

"A lot of times civil rights work starts as unpopular work and a lot of times it starts about work surrounding details," he said. "I am very proud of the detailed work we've done."

Congressman Barney Frank and Mariala Castro, daughter of Cuban leader Raul Castro, also attended the event, where they were both honored.
