Tractor-Trailer, Car Crash Snarls Traffic On Northeast Extension

WHITPAIN TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – One person was injured after an accident involving a tractor trailer and a car in Montgomery County early Thursday morning.

The accident happened at about 7 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Northeast Extension in Whitpain Township.

As a result of the crash, the car was pushed up on its side and was pinned between the tractor trailer and the center median.

Officials report the driver of the tractor trailer, identified as 49-year-old William Kishbaugh of Wapwallopen, failed to obey posted signs instructing all trucks to use the left lane only.

The driver of the tractor trailer also suffered injuries was was taken to Mercy Suburban Hospital in Norristown.

Traffic in the southbound lanes was shutdown for several hours, but it has since been reopened.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

No charges have been filed.
