PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Former Philadelphia Phillie Jamie Moyer will deliver a different kind of pitch to graduates of Immaculata University.

The left-handed hurler will speak at the school’s commencement ceremony on May 19. Immaculata officials said Wednesday that Moyer will also receive an honorary degree.

Moyer played 25 years in Major League Baseball and helped the Phillies capture the World Series in 2008. Last year, as a Colorado Rockie, the 49-year-old became the oldest starting pitcher to record a win.

Moyer and his wife established the nonprofit Moyer Foundation about 13 years ago to help children in distress.

About 915 Immaculata students will receive degrees at the ceremony. The private Catholic university is located about 20 miles west of Philadelphia.
