Every Reason To Choose Native Plants

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Native plants are such a smart choice, particularly if you're a lazy gardener like me, because natives already know how to grow around here so they really are carefree. Plus native plants (such as blueberries pictured here in their glorious red fall color) welcome cute critters to your yard by offering them food and places to raise their babies.

But these days, garden centers have far too many plants that weren't born in the USA, and these aliens are escaping our yards and invading our fields and forests! When alien plants run loose in our natural areas, they can quickly take over. Because our wildlife can't digest them, aliens can run rampant, smothering what should grow here.

So, to learn how easy it is to choose beautiful natives that will welcome birds and butterflies to your yard and protect our natural areas, join Schuylkill Center restoration manager Joanne Donohue at the Whitemarsh Township Administration Building, on Germantown Pike in Lafayette Hill, Monday May 6th, at 7 PM.
