Rowan University Hosts Annual 'Be The Match' Event To Register Marrow Donors

GLASSBORO, NJ (CBS) – Donate just 15 minutes of your time this Wednesday, and you could save a life.

For the fifth year, the Rowan University football team is hosting its annual "Get In The Game. Save A Life. Be The Match Registry" event in the University's Chamberlain Student Center Pit on April 24th.

The event is held to find bone marrow matches for people battling leukemia, lymphoma and other life-threatening diseases and has facilitated more than 50,000 bone marrow and cord blood donations.

Organizers say anyone who wishes to participate should stop by between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The process involves a quick and painless cheek swab which enters potential donors into the Be The Match Registry. From there, donors who are a match will be contacted by the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP).

Last year, more than 255 people enrolled in the registry, and this year, the goal is 400.
