SALFORD TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) – One person was killed and another was injured in a violent car crash in Montgomery County Tuesday morning.

The deadly one-car crash happened along Ridge Road near Sugar Hill Drive in Salford Township.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, 21-year-old Sean Sperl was driving the car and 21-year-old Ryan Petrille was passenger in the vehicle.

State Police officials say Sperl was driving at a high rate of speed around a curve when he lost control and crossed over into the opposite lane of traffic and left the roadway. The car then struck a utility pole and was ripped in half.

Investigators say Petrille was ejected from the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. Sperl was taken to a local hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

There was no immediate word if any charges would be filed.

The deadly crash remains under investigation.
