Hundreds Attend 4/20 Protest For Legalization Of Cannabis At Independence Mall

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Philadelphia National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws and The Panic Hour hosted a protest on Independence Mall, asking for the legalization of cannabis.

At 4:20 p.m. on April 20th, nearly 400 folks lit their joints in unison at a protest to raise awareness about the social issues that are directly related to marijuana.

Steve Miller is with PhillyNORML.

"This is a smoked out phohibition. It's an event to end the drug war, through civil disobedience and through education and through a rally," said Miller.

The folks who took part in the protest made it very clear to me why they came out.

"I support the legalization of marijuana. I think it should be regulated like alcohol," said one protester.

This is the fourth month in a row the protest has been held in Independence Mall and the groups are planning another one next month on May 25th.
