3 Injured In South Philadelphia House Fire

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) –- Three people were injured during a house fire in Philadelphia early Friday morning.

The fire started at about 2:30 a.m. inside a home in the 700 block of McKean Street in South Philadelphia.

When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and flames billowing from the rear of the home. Firefighters were able to place the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.

Fire officials say two people were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and a third individual was taken to Methodist Hospital. There was no immediate word on the extent of their injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
