ARDMORE, Pa. (CBS) – The U.S. Open comes to Merion Golf Club in Delaware County in June, and many homeowners who live near the course are offering their houses for rent.
Main Line realtor Bob Thomas has been working on this for 18 months. He’s set up a website and put flyers in mailboxes of homes surrounding the historic Ardmore course.
Right now he has just over 100 listings. He’s closed on about half a dozen homes, but expects interest to pick up after this week’s Masters Tournament.
“Tv now is showing all the golf tournaments. Tiger is playing well, the weather is getting nicer and you’re getting a lot more interest and visibility about the Open coming to Merion,” he said.
Thomas says it’s all about location. The closer you get to the course, the more you’ll pay.
His listings range from $4,000-$5,000, to more than $100,000 for the week. He believes people will be interested in paying a premium to be close by because it will be nearly impossible to park near the event.
Many of the area’s hotels are already booked.
