Rutgers President To Hold Town Hall In Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Rutgers University president Robert Barchi is about to face some tough questions.

The embattled president will hold a town hall meeting at the school's Newark campus Monday.

Barchi will face some students and faculty who say they lost confidence in him even before the controversy over the firing of men's basketball coach Mike Rice last week.

They say a plan to reorganize the state's higher education system shortchanges the Rutgers campuses in Camden and Newark.

There is a proposal for the Camden and Newark law schools to merge. The plan will merge Rutgers with the state's University of Medicine and Dentistry. It's expected to cost up to $75 million.

Some faculty members say research money and resources will be funneled to the campus in New Brunswick.
