STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Eleven former Penn State football players have written a letter to fellow lettermen calling for a former player to be voted off the school’s Board of Trustees.

Notable names on the letter campaigning against Paul Suhey include running backs Franco Harris and Lydell Mitchell, and quarterback Todd Blackledge.

They’re critical of how trustees handled the aftermath of the child sexual abuse scandal involving former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky.

Suhey, a 1979 football team captain, was on the board in November 2011 when it fired head coach Joe Paterno.

Suhey’s seat is up for re-election by alumni. He has said in a statement that while he made a “stunningly unpopular decision,” his obligation as a trustee was to vote his conscience. He says he believes he made the right decision.
