PHILADELPHIA (CBS) —  A group of about 40 Catholics marked Good Friday by staging the “Way of the Cross” procession on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

The procession began outside the Basilica of St. Peter and Paul, and then headed south-east on the Parkway to City Hall.

Staging the procession was the group “Communion and Liberation,” an Ecclesial movement of the Catholic Church, founded in the 1950’s in Italy.

The local group was led by the Reverend Philip Forlano, Parochial Vicar of St. Stanislaus Church in Lansdale.
He says, “we’re giving a public witness to the death and resurrection of Christ, to witness the world that Christ is present and saving us now through his church, his body.”
The Way of the Cross is a symbolic recreation of Christ carrying the cross to his crucifixion.
