Cathedral Basilica Gears Up For Easter Weekend

By Steve Tawa

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul is the center of activity, now through Easter Sunday, for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

The Good Friday Passion of the Lord, was led by the Rector of the Cathedral, the Reverend Monsignor Arthur Rodgers, as the principal celebrant and homilist.

Worshipers commemorated the Holy Passion and Death of Jesus.

It followed three hours of prayer in the Cathedral, during which confession was heard.

One person says, "i'm just popping in and go to confession before Easter."

Another say, "this is a season for renewal. I don't think it's a coincidence that Pope Benedict chose this time to step down and we have a new leader."

On  Easter Sunday Mass Archbishop Charles Chaput will lead the main mass at 11 am.

The other masses on Easter Sunday are at 8am, 9:30am and 12:30pm.
