Knife-wielding Suspect Shot By Police In South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A knife-wielding suspect was shot by police in South Philadelphia on Thursday.

The incident happened at 10:03 p.m. at 10th and Mifflin Streets, when an officer responded to two radio calls, one for a fight and one for a stabbing.

When the police officer arrived on the scene, the suspect was allegedly stabbing multiple people.

"When the police pulled up, they ordered a male to drop the knife, stop stabbing the individuals, the male refused, and continued stabbing both the father and son," says Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The officer then shot the 23-year-old suspect three times.

Two people, a 50-year-old father and his 24-year-old son, were stabbed by the suspect and were transported to Hahnemann Hospital. They are in stable condition.

The suspect was taken to Jefferson University Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

While a motive is unclear, police say the suspect did know his victims.
