Police: Driver Plows Into Parked Cars While Trying To Avoid Gunfire In West Philadelphia

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The driver of a pickup truck crashed into several parked cars early Wednesday morning while trying to escape gunfire in West Philadelphia.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. along the 1400 block of Allison Street in the city's Overbrook section.

Police say when the gunfire started, the driver of the truck tried to reverse down the narrow street, but he hit at least seven parked cars in the process, and then fled on foot.

Police say the truck was apparently hit by two bullets, and another parked car was also stuck by gunfire. They do not know if the driver was injured by the gunfire. Authorities are checking with local hospitals. Blood was found inside the truck, but police say it's unclear how much and where it came from.

Police are looking for the shooter.  Detectives talked to the registered owner of the truck, but they say he was not operating the vehicle at the time of the incident.
