PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — For one performance only, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia presents “Fall of the Berlin Wall” on Sunday, April 7th in Verizon Hall.
Listen to the podcast below…
Executive Director Peter Gistelinck says the theme of the program coincides with this year’s PIFA theme, “time travel.”
“There is so much music that is linked to the fall of the wall; why don’t we do a program around that theme?” Gistelinck adds.
Performed in collaboration with a solo exhibition of photographs, the Chamber Orchestra aims to memorialize one of the defining events of the 20th century.
“I think people will enjoy it for several reasons. I mean, just pure musically…the 9th Symphony of Beethoven its one of the — if not the — highlight composition of Beethoven’s life. Also, we’re working together with a wonderful chorus, the Mendelssohn Club of Philadelphia,” Gistelinck explains.
