Philly Soccer Show: Jack McInerney

By Greg Orlandini

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) –- Two game-winning goals in two matches, and he now the Philadelphia Union's leading goal scorer for the season.

Jack McInerney is the guest on this week's KYW Philly Soccer Show.

KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch talk with the forward about his strong start in the 2013 campaign.  We also discuss his partnership with fellow forward and team all-time leading scorer Sébastien Le Toux.

Eli and Greg then move on to some of the off-field drama the team is going through.  The Union are trying to offload two high-priced players: defender Bakary Soumare and, of course, Freddy Adu.

Adu is in Brazil ahead of a possible transfer to Bahia, with the Union getting a World Cup winner in return: Brazilian midfielder Kléberson.

Soumare, in a story first reported by the Philly Soccer Page, requested a trade, saying he did not feel he is getting a fair chance at playing time.

We then move on to the US National Team.  Two major World Cup qualifiers for the team: first against Costa Rica in Colorado on Friday, and then against archrival Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.

Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has a number of key injuries and a very inexperienced defense to deal with, making the road to the 2014 World Cup that much harder.
