5 Minors Arrested In Connection To Abduction, Carjacking Of 89-Year-Old Delaware Woman

LINCOLN, Del. (CBS) -- Police say they arrested five minors in connection with the abduction and carjacking of an 89-year-old Delaware woman.

According to police, around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, a family member reported 89-year-old Margaret E. Smith missing. Police say Smith had not been seen since getting into her car around 11 a.m. and her family was growing concerned due to her medical conditions.

Officials issued a Gold Alert for Margaret that included a description of her car.

Police say Margaret was found confused, suffering from exposure and wandering around the graves of a cemetery located on Calvary Road. She was taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released.

Authorities report, while Margaret was being interviewed, officers conducted a traffic stop on her car and arrested five juveniles:

Junia McDonald, 14, Milford
Jackeline H. Perez, 15, Milford
Rondaiges A. Harper, 17, Bridgeville
Phillip L. Brewer, 17, Bridgeville
Deniaya E. Smith, 15, Bridgeville

Police say an investigation determined that Margaret agreed to give McDonald and Perez a ride to Lincoln after they approached her at the Chicken Man Convenience Store in Milford.

Allegedly, after arriving at a residence, a struggle ensued when the two suspects demanded that Margaret hand over her keys.

Police say once the girls took the keys, they forced the victim into the trunk of her car and drove off.

At one point, the girls demanded money from the victim and took $500 from her coat pocket, says investigators.

Police say the suspects then dropped Margaret off at the cemetery where she was found by a visitor.

McDonald and Perez were charged with conspiracy, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery. Harper and Brewer were charged with conspiracy, kidnapping and receiving stolen property. Deniaya Smith was charged with conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
