State Dog Wardens Will Be Checking On Licenses In Delaware County

By Molly Daly

DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. (CBS) -- State dog wardens are knocking on doors in Delaware County this week to make sure dog licenses are current. Canvassing will take place in Aston Township, Glenolden, Lansdowne, and surrounding communities.

Every dog in Pennsylvania three months or older has to be licensed. It doesn't cost much -- $6.45 for dogs who are spayed or neutered, and $8.45 for those who aren't. It's $2 less for seniors and the disabled.

The Pennsylvania Agriculture Department's press secretary, Samantha Krepps, says it's a lot cheaper to license and vaccinate your dog compared to the penalty for not doing so.

"It's up to a $300 fine for each violation, and if your dog is not up to date on its rabies shots, that's other fines that you can incur," Krepps explains.

In Delaware County, licenses may be purchased through County Treasurer John Dowd by calling 610-891-4276, or at the following locations:

Boothwyne -Fuzzy Butts Dog Daycare
Brookhaven - Brookhaven Borough Hall, Seven Seas Aquarium and Pet Supply
