Residents Can Text Crime Tips To The Gloucester Township Police Department

GLOUCESTER Twp., N.J. (CBS) - Residents and community members can now send anonymous crime tips and other information through text messages and emails to the Gloucester Township Police Department.

The department announced on Monday that it is now utilizing the Citizen Observer's "tip411" system.

Residents can send an anonymous text message to 847411, keyword GLOTWP or visit the tip411 webpage and send an anonymous email.

Police say the sender will not be identified by their phone number or email address.  The only identifier police will receive is an unidentifiable tracking number.

Police believe this system will add to the success of their Crime Stoppers program.

As of last week, over 65% of the crimes posted and distributed through their social media sites and Community Notification System have resulted in an arrest.  Police say using these systems are not only solving crimes, but preventing crimes as well.

To send an anonymous crime tip via text message, text the keyword GLOTWP followed by the message to 847411 (tip411).  The person sending the text message will receive a message back that if their situation is an emergency they are to call 911.

Citizens can also forward anonymous crime tips by calling the Gloucester Township Police Crime Tipline at 856-842-5560.

The anonymous crime tip programs are not monitored 24 hours a day.

Police remind citizens to call 911 if it is an emergency.  For non-emergencies that require immediate police assistance, call Gloucester Township Police at 856-228-4500.

Residents seeking or forwarding general information can email it to police@gtpolice.com.
