Philadelphia Man Sentenced For Repeatedly Raping Godson

By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia man was sentenced to a long prison term today for repeatedly raping his godson over a two-year period.

Eric Maloy, 45, was sentenced to 36-72 years in prison for repeatedly raping and sexually assaulting the little boy from 2009 to 2011, when the boy was just five and six years old.

Philadelphia prosecutor Branwen McNabb says Maloy was first arrested at the age of 15 for raping a two-year-old, and there were other alleged incidents over the years.  But no convictions, until this case.

The little boy's mother, who knew nothing of the prior conviction or allegations against the defendant, said afterward, "I am satisfied with the sentencing.  I hope it goes all the way to the max. I hope he endures some of the pain (my son) endured. And I am glad my son spoke up and kept other little kids safe from him."

And even with tears streaming down her cheeks, still a smile crossed her face as she talked of her son's courage.  And as the prosecutor said, finally justice was served on Eric Maloy.

KYW Newsradio is withholding the names of the mother and son to protect the victim's identity.
