PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - When people talk about the changes in healthcare: areas like how we diagnose our patients, how we order labs, and how care is paid for in this new computer-based world, words like transformation and innovation are thrown around. As a patient – a consumer – it sounds pretty good when you hear those terms. But another word, one that is more foreboding is also being used – it is disruption.
Those who have a vision of the next couple of years believe that there will be disruption at virtually every level of how care is provided. The hope is that disruption will lead to improvements and greater access to care for all. But as is the case with most change, it is going to be a bumpy ride.
