TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) - New Jersey law enforcement is banding together to go after people who would defraud victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Attorney General Jeffrey Chiesa has formed a Statewide Sandy Fraud Working Group.

Officials from the Criminal Justice, Consumer Affairs and Insurance Fraud offices will team up with state police and prosecutors in hard hit counties.

“If we receive information about a potential criminal matter, then it’s also evaluated as a potential consumer fraud matter or a potential civil matter, whatever it may be,” says Chiesa.

And it’ll help to consolidate things if someone is ripping off a lot of people at once. That’s happened, particularly with price gauging and charity fraud. Anyone with a complaint should contact New Jersey investigators at 855-SANDY-39 or online at www.StopSandyFraud.org.
