Hamels Throws 5 Strong Innings, Phillies Beat Astros 7-1

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Cole Hamels gave up one hit in five innings and Laynce Nix homered for the Philadelphia Phillies in a 7-1 victory over the Houston Astros on Sunday.

Hamels retired 14 straight batters after giving up a leadoff double to Tyler Greene in the first inning.

Brandon Laird was the only other batter to reach against Hamels, drawing a two-out walk in the fifth.

Greene scored Houston's run on a groundball. Hamels struck out one in his fourth spring start.

Freddy Galvis had three straight hits for the Phillies and Erik Kratz hit a two-run triple off Jarred Cosart. Astros starter Brad Peacock worked three shutout innings.

Phillies left fielder Darin Ruf left in the sixth after being hit on his left arm by a pitch from Cosart.
