ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (CBS) – Police say an Atlantic City police officer was struck by a drunk driver on Thursday.

The accident happened around 3 a.m. on Thursday on Route 40, where Officer Priscilla Murray was seated inside her patrol vehicle.

The intoxicated male driver struck Officer Murray’s car, causing it to spin around several times.

Police say the driver of the car that hit Officer Murray continued to drive while she transported information back to her fellow officers about the car, which was a blue Dodge Caravan.

Officer Murray was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, where she was treated for neck and back injuries and released.

Forty-six-year-old Jayesh Patel, of Mays Landing, was arrested shortly after the incident. While police were putting him in the back of the cop car, Patel began kicking officers.

Patel is now facing charges of Assault by Auto, DWI, Aggravated Assault on Police and Resisting Arrest.
