PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The National Constitution Center kicked off Women's History Month by hosting Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who stopped by to discuss her New York Times bestselling memoir, My Beloved World.
Applause filled the room as Justice Sotomayor took her seat on stage to talk with University of Pennsylvania President Dr. Amy Gutman about her book and her life.
She started by sharing stories of her life growing up in the Bronx, which she said helped her develop qualities she keeps to this day.
"Part of the lesson that the Catholic school taught me was I had a choice about being a good or bad person, and that that choice involved giving to others," Justice Sotomayor said.
She also answered some questions from the audience that let the evening end on a lighter note
"If I were stranded on a desert island, I would pick John Paul Stevens. I so admire him -- his knowledge and wisdom are so extraordinary.
The program is part of the NCC's 10th anniversary celebration, "We the People."
