PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Philadelphia police officer was injured in a crash while responding to a police pursuit early Friday morning.
The incident started when police began pursuing a vehicle in West Philadelphia. The driver led police on a short pursuit before it came to an end when the suspect crashed into several parked cars near 59th and Chestnut Streets.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody and is facing several charges, including assault on a police officer.
While responding to the chase, a police officer was injured when his cruiser was involved in a crash at 59th and Race Streets. The officer’s exact injuries were not immediately known, but authorities say he was alert and communicating.
It was not immediately known what prompted the initial chase.
The incident remains under police investigation.
