Franklin Square Carousel, Miniature Golf Reopened For Tourist Season

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The tourist attractions in Franklin Square, the city park at 6th and Race Streets, are officially open to the public once again -- a sign that spring is right around the corner.

Today, the sounds of spring were in the air at Franklin Square.  Cara Debkowski, event coordinator for the park, says most of the park's main attractions, including the carousel, are now open.

"We do have a lot of people that love to come to the square, and they are just bursting at the gates to come, so we like to be open as soon as possible," she said today.

The park attractions will be open daily at 10am.

Ebony Oliver was there with her daughter, Téa (below):  "She's four and a half.  She's starting to get more into the mini-golf.  She loves the playground, and the carousel she's always loved since she was little."

The park's director says it's still too cold to fill the big fountain with water.  Square Burger, the popular food vendor, is set to open March 23rd.
