PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett was being praised today by women’s groups for proposing a ten-percent increase in funding for the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape.

“He’s been our friend for a very long time,” says Diane Moyer, legal director for PCAR.  She says Corbett’s budget proposal would allocate $700,000 to her group, which distributes funds to dozens of rape crisis centers throughout Pennsylvania.

In a ceremony today at the center city office of Philadelphia-based Women Organized Against Rape, the governor said the money will underwrite a variety of services for victims of rape, and for rape prevention.

“These services include emergency help, financial aid, referrals, assistance in dealing with police and hospitals, and risk prevention,” the governor said.

Corbett also presented a proclamation to WOAR in recognition of its 40th anniversary (photo).
