Local Residents Share Their Oscar Plans And Predictions

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - All eyes in the entertainment world are on Hollywood for the Academy Awards tonight. For many film lovers, the evening begins well before showtime with the Red Carpet coverage.

It's no surprise that most of the people are rooting for the film starring a local actor and shot in the area.

"My favorite is Silver Linings Playbook," John said at Reading Terminal Market. "I thought it was an interesting story. I'm really surprised by how good of an actor Bradley Cooper is."

"It's so artful, you know, there's no special effects. All the performances are so authentic," Laura Nicholas said. "You gotta love how Robert DiNiro played the typical crusty Philadelphia dad. He uses the F-word like nobody else!"

D'Ann Long was grocery shopping for her first-ever viewing party.

"That's why we're here at the market, hopefully some fresh steaks and some fresh vegetables."

She has seen a few of the films nominated for the top prize this year.

"I really hope 'Argo' wins for best picture because Ben Affleck deserves it after being slighted for not being nominated for best director," Long said. "And really, I'm looking forward to the performances. Adelle is gonna be there, that's gonna be amazing. I just like seeing people showcase their talents and being rewarded for being the best in the business."

Some people say host Seth MacFarlane will provide plenty of laughs and maybe even a few awkward moments.
