Director Says Oddyssey Half Marathon Is Race Designed By Runners For Runners

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Oddyssey half marathon is a 13.1 mile race through Fairmount Park, designed by runners with the focus on runners.

"We actually started it because we're runners and we loved running the Broad Street Run and every year we were looking for a half-marathon to follow it up with and we couldn't find one," says race director Carl Ewald.

He says in addition to music along the course, one of the best parts of Oddyssey is the finish line.

"We have a beer-garden that lines the finish line which is great because runners stick around and have a beer and they cheer people in. It sent chills up my spine when the last runner came in last year and the whole beer garden just stood up and cheered as loud as they could," says Ewald.
