ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) – Officials say a 25-year-old man was rescued from his boat in Atlantic County Thursday.
According to officials, the victim’s boat ran aground near Margate, New Jersey Thursday. He called Tow Boat U.S. for help but lost communication with them due to a dying cell phone battery says officials.
Authorities say Tow Boat U.S. was able to contact the Coast Guard who spotted the 25-year-old aboard his 21-foot boat from a helicopter.
A boatcrew was sent in to rescue the man who was not wearing a life jacket, did not have a marine-band radio and could not communicate.
He was turned over to Margate emergency medical personnel in an unknown condition.
The Coast Guard is urging boaters to equip their boats with the necessary equipment and take a boating safety course.
