Man Sentenced To 25 Years For Fatally Shooting Neighbor Over Parking Space

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Prosecutors say a man who fatally shot his neighbor after they feuded over a parking space at a central New Jersey apartment complex has been sentenced to 25 years in state prison.

Wayne Voorhees will have to serve 85 percent of his term before becoming eligible for parole. And after he’s released from prison, the 52-year-old Ewing resident will have to serve five years of supervised release.

Voorhees had pleaded guilty last December to aggravated manslaughter in the July 2011 death of 24-year-old Timothy Rivella.

Mercer County prosecutors say Voorhees was in his unit at the Versailles apartment complex when he intentionally shot Rivella. Voorhees then held authorities at bay for nearly eight hours before police stormed the unit and found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
