Teen Sues Boy Scouts, Alleging Sexual Abuse At Camp In Pennsylvania
ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A young man who says he was sexually abused at a Boy Scout camp in Pennsylvania has filed suit against the national Scouting organization and its local affiliate.
The plaintiff, now 18, says he was sexually assaulted by Gregory Ritter, a 44-year-old first aid supervisor at Camp Trexler in the Poconos. The abuse allegedly took place in the fall of 2008, when the plaintiff was 14.
Ritter was charged criminally in the case. He killed himself in January 2010 on the day his trial was supposed to start.
The Boy Scouts of America and a local chapter, the Allentown-based Minsi Trails Council, are named as defendants in the lawsuit, which was filed Friday in Lehigh County Court.
Messages were left for both organizations.
