Parents React To Arrest Of 19-Year-Old In Connection To Abducted 5-Year-Old

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Slamming doors and pushing microphones away is how some people reacted as they left Heaven's Little Angel's day care center near 60th and Catherine Streets, where police say 19-year-old Christina Regusters worked.

It's also where the 5-year-old girl, who was abducted last month from Bryant Elementary, used to go after school.

"We do our best to protect our children and put them in places where people are supposed to protect them," said parent Aaron Jones.

When Jones looked at the mugshot of 19-year-old Christina Regusters, he became angered.

"I'm a father of six and we don't need people like her on the streets," says Jones.

Thursday night, police charged Regusters with the kidnapping and rape of the 5-year-old (see related story).

Jones says his third grade son attended Heaven's Little Angel's after-school program for two years.

Last week he remembers having a conversation with Regusters about cell phones.

"She did her job; it's absolutely bizarre," said Jones.

One parent, who did not want to be identified, says she never suspected anything odd about Regusters. She says its unfortunate the day care has been connected to such a horrible story.

Some parents aren't so forgiving. Aaron Jones says he's filling out paperwork to send his son to a different center.

David Hicks, who described himself as a family friend to Regusters, says he never thought she was capable of committing the crimes she's been charged with.

Thursday, we tried to speak with officials from Heaven's Little Angel's, no one wanted to comment. We did notice a crime bulletin in the window about the abduction.
