DA: Uncle Ordered To Trial In Beating Death Of 6-Year-Old Nephew
By Mike Dougherty
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Wallingford man waived a preliminary hearing and has been ordered to trial for the November 2012 beating death of his 6-year-old nephew.
Authorites say 38-year-old Paul Adams Jr. mercilessly beat young Tyreece Charlow with a belt because the boy wouldn't lay out his school clothes for the following day.
"According to the uncle's own admission, he indicated that he did this to discipline the child," says Delaware County district attorney Jack Whelan.
He says Adams is a fourth degree black belt.
"He was holding the two hands and arms of the child with his one hand and [with] his other hand he was aggressively and viciously hitting the child and this lasted for 45 minutes with the child constantly crying," Whelan explains.
Formal arraignment is scheduled for March 6th. Whelan says they are thinking about pursuing the death penalty.
