PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A lot of music stirs your soul, but few musical works spill out onto the street.
From February 21-24, the Philadelphia Orchestra presents a very modern interpretation of Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring.” The orchestra’s vice president of artistic planning, Jeremy Rothman, says the premiere had quite an impact.
“The piece was notorious, when it was premiered, for creating a riot in Paris, which was a combination of both the unusual musical style…a very contemporary style that, at the time, Stravinsky was composing. And also the presentation of the ballet, the costuming, and the sets and the choreography,” Rothman says.
Add to that fabulous dancers, a visual spectacular and an aerialist suspended over the stage, and you’ve got magic.
