PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – “Green Day’s American Idiot” comes to the Merriam Theater from February 12-17.

The Kimmel Center’s Matt Wolf says the show is based on the punk band’s Grammy Award-winning album of the same name.

“This album had a concept behind it — it had so much strength in the lyrics. And what ended up happening was the creative team from ‘Spring Awakening’ gravitated toward this album, and then created a musical. They really stayed true to the arrangements of the rock and roll music, and used stunning visual effects, and amazing video, lights and sound, choreography, to create this story about three boys and their way of coping with the post-9/11 world. It’s a really electric experience,” Wolf explains.
