PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 5 dedicated a new headquarters in the Northeast, Thursday.
FOP President John McNesby brought the crowd to its feet as he invited the families of fallen officers to come to the front of the room to cut the ceremonial ribbon dedicating “Heroes Hall,” a large ballroom inside the new FOP headquarters.
McNesby says moving from their long-time headquarters was bittersweet, but some good will come of it.
“For leaving our existing building at Broad and Spring Garden was a little sad, but for something that didn’t work for us is now going to work good for the boys’ choir and they’re going to have a great home there for years to come and we look forward to being here for years to come.”
In addition to the banquet hall, the new FOP headquarters has a full gym, a lounge and restaurant, and executive offices.
McNesby says the FOP is hiring more than 40 people from the local area to work at the facility.
