Cartwright Helps Penn Hold Off Columbia 62-58

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Miles Cartwright scored eight of his 22 points in the final 2 minutes as Pennsylvania held off Columbia 62-58 Friday night.

The Quakers (4-15, 1-1 Ivy League) led 45-36 with 9:38 left when the Lions tied it with a 9-0 spurt, but Penn never relinquished the lead.

After Cartwright, who was 10 for 10 from the line, made two free throws with 1:45 left for a 56-53 lead, Brian Barbour answered with a 3-pointer for Columbia, which finished 3 of 17 from deep.

Cartwright hit a jumper, then added two free throws. Barbour's two foul shots with 9 seconds left made it a two-point game, but Cartwright sank two free throws a second later. Barbour missed his 3-point attempt with 4 seconds left, finishing with 21 points.

The Lions (9-8, 1-2) had a 39-26 rebounding advantage.

Penn's Fran Dougherty, who missed eight games due to mononucleosis, scored five points.
