PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say a building under construction in north Philadelphia that partially collapsed, injuring several people, is being built to house the police Special Victims Unit.
The construction accident in the Hunting Park section was reported just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Firefighters said four people were taken to hospitals with what appeared to be non-life-threatening neck and back injuries. Police listed only three men injured, saying a 23-year-old with a leg injury, a 47-year-old with chest pains, and an 83-year-old man with a back injury were stabilized and then taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
Spokeswoman Maura Kennedy of the city’s Licenses and Inspections Department said the contractor had a permit to renovate a warehouse and add office space, and federal workplace safety officials were at the scene.
