PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A driver was taken to the hospital after a one-vehicle crash that brought down a utility pole near the Schuylkill Expressway Monday morning.
The accident happened at about 10:30 on an off-ramp for the University Avenue exit of the Expressway.
The driver of an SUV apparently lost control and crashed into a utility pole, splitting the pole in half and sending the other half in the lanes of the exit ramp.
The driver was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in an unknown condition.
Crews from PECO were at the scene shortly after the accident to repair the utility pole.
Police are investigating if the weather conditions played a role in the accident. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
