PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Opera Company of Philadelphia presents “Silent Night” from February 8th through the 17th at the Academy of Music.
Listen to the podcast below…
Opera Company President David Devan says it won the Pulitzer for music in 2012.
“It’s a moving story based on the World War I Christmas Eve truce of the Scottish, French and Germans – a real live story – and the music is stunning,” Devan says.
But you won’t hear the classic song “Silent Night” that you’re familiar with. Devan says the librettist, the man who wrote the lyrics, had quite the task, as the performers sing in several languages.
“The libretto is in French, English, German, Italian and Latin, all with English subtitles, so you’ll be able to follow along,” Devan explains.
