‘Party Like A Viking’ At Beer Launch With An Instagram Challenge

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The P.O.P.E. – a/k/a the Pub on Passyunk East – is hosting an Instagram Viking Party for the U.S. debut of Scotland’s Skull Splitter on draft.
The party kicks off with the official pour of Viking’s Skull Splitter, a Scottish ale known for its rich, fruity flavor that includes hints of dates and figs blended with spices. Add in the high AVB of 8.5%, and the beer makes the party.
John Wagner, the P.O.P.E.’s bar manager, is a huge fan of Skull Splitter in the bottle, and he says that apparently, the bar already serves the most bottles of Skull Splitter in the city – hosting the U.S. launch was a no-brainer.
Just how does one party like a viking using Instagram, let alone with a challenge attached?
Wagner explains the role the popular photo-sharing site plays during the event.
“We will have a man dressed up as a ‘striking viking,’ who people will be getting their pictures taken with, and whoever has the most outrageous picture will win a gift certificate and glassware,” Wagner says.

As for the mechanics of the challenge, people need to sign up for an Instagram account, and then the games begin. Party-goers will run around trying to find the viking to snag a hilarious photo.
Wagner adds it is pretty simple from there: “It will have to be hashtagged then we will judge and know the best photo by the hashtag.”
